HELP
SAVE THE SEA OF CORTEZ FROM LONGLINERS AND GILL NETS!!
A
recent revision to the once thought dead Shark Norma 029 is being
pushed through. This very destructive policy will allow the deployment
of 243 longlining vessels, converted shrimp trawlers, with over 8,000
miles of of longline and over 200,000 hooks could be in the Sea of
Cortez on any given day, according to the latest Carta Nacional de
Pesca. PLEASE VOICE YOUR DISAPPROVAL!! An easy way
to make your voice heard is to visit
SEAWATCH
and send
an email against this program
to top government officials and to the so-called conservation group,
"Defenders of Wildlife", who is behind this latest version
of Shark Norma 029. Send them both your thoughts on why this should
NEVER be allowed to happen. DO YOUR PART TO MAKE
A DIFFERENCE!! |

CABO'S NEWEST FISHING TOURNAMENT
THE INTERNATIONAL GOVERNORS CUP
The newest tournament in Los Cabos! The International Governors
Cup Tournament (IGCT) is a conservation-minded sport fishing tournament.
Circle hooks are required whenever using live or dead baits
and the tournament also requires the RELEASE OF ALL
bill fish. The tournament does include divisions and cash awards
for the top three largest tuna, wahoo and dorado but a minimum weight
of thirty pounds is required to qualify for weigh-in or prize money.
Several Los Cabos charities will benefit from the event including
Casa Hogar – homes for orphaned boys and girls in Cabo San
Lucas and La Paz – and the construction of a new Senior Care
Center.
Oscar Daccarett, State Commissioner of Sport Fishing, sport fishing
enthusiast and well-known philanthropist, is the "father"
of the tournament. Minerva Saenz Valenzuela of Minerva's Baja Tackle
and local tournament expert, Clicerio Mercado will handle most of
the tournament specifics. A guaranteed minimum payout of 90% ot
the total entry fees makes this one of the highest return tournaments
there is. All told, there will be total of 12 cash awards paid to
the top 3 teams in each of 4 divisions. With an anticipated field
of 80 teams, the payouts will total more than ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!

TEXAS TEEN LANDS NEW WORLD RECORD WAHOO!
15-year-old Sara Hayward of Nacogdoches, Texas caught a 184
pound wahoo, a new world record. IGFA
representative Minerva
Saenz, who inspected the fish, later said the lure was a "Mean
Joe Green" rigged with the oldest set of 10/0 tandem hooks she
had ever seen. Sara has applied for three world records for the 184-
pound catch: all-tackle, junior female and the women’s 50-pound
line class record. |
