Where to Stay in Los Cabos

Finding the right room – from boutique hotels to resort suites and private villas.

There are several distinct areas that together are known as Los Cabos – Cabo San Lucas at the tip of Land's End; San Jose del Cabo, the slower paced historic colonial town about a half-hour drive north of Cabo San Lucas; and the Tourist Corridor between the two municipalities. Those areas are where you'll find the greatest number of options for places to stay with dozens of hotels, resorts and all-inclusive properties. Further out from the San Jose del Cabo International Airport are the towns of Pescadero and Todos Santos on the Pacific side and the East Cape region on the Sea of Cortez side of the cape. In this section of our Cabo Travel guide we'll help you find which area, and which hotel, resort or private accomodation best fits your needs.

Los Cabos Hotels and Resorts

RIU Santa Fe Resort Cabo San Lucas

CABO

Perhaps the best reason to chose to stay in Cabo San Lucas is the close proximity to the Cabo marina, world-famous sport fishing and nightlife and an ever evolving culinary scene. Most of what first-time visitors to Los Cabos want to do and see is within walking distance of over 20 different hotels and resorts. Staying on the Pacific side of Land's End gives you more of a private feel and no beach vendors. Staying on the Marina puts you in the middle of everything. Medano Beach puts you on the only swimmable beach in Cabo proper with a host of water sports to try.

SAN JOSE

If you're looking for a quieter vacation that still affords you a good deal of entertainment and activities, then the charming town of San Jose del Cabo may be your cup of tea. Choose from quaint little inns or dramatic beachfront mega-resorts in San Jose's "zona hotelera." A must do is the ArtWalk that takes place Thursday nights in the town's central plaza. Great galleries and restaurants line cobblestone streets while the plaza plays home to an open-air art exhibit complete with live entertainers. Nearby, Puerto Los Cabos boasts a full service marina and golf.

CORRIDOR

The stretch of coastline between Cabo and San Jose del Cabo is known as the "tourist corridor." Here you'll be away from both towns along some pristine beaches but still close enough to take daytrips to either. At last count, the corridor had  6 new hotel/resorts under construction with about the same number of new properties that have opened in the last year or two. Most are big... hundreds of rooms, but some are boutique sized and styled so their are options. Uber, taxis and local busses are  readily available but renting a car while staying in the Corridor is a good choice.

Playa Grande Resort in Cabo San Lucas

A Favorite Resort in Cabo

Sometimes bigger is better. Especially if you want multiple swimming pools, lots of onsite restaurants and bars and a wide beachfront setting. Playa Grande Resort in Cabo San Lucas brings the ultimate in luxury to Land’s End and everything here is done on a grand scale. Huge arches with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, a large domed lobby complemented by granite and onyx floors, sculptured columns and gorgeous artwork wherever you gaze are all part of the package. Playa Grande provides up-scale luxury with room rates within reach of most Los Cabos bound vacationers.

From the moment you arrive and the bellmen cart off your baggage, you can't help but be awed at the scale of this elegant and seductive hotel. The lobby with its high ceilings is wrapped in windows. Natural light floods in and creates an open and welcoming space that brings the thought.... "Ahhh... I'm on vacation." Being on the Pacific side of Land's End, Playa Grande's beach is free of vendors yet you are within walking distance of downtown and the Cabo marina.

Sirena del Mar Cabo San Lucas Hotel

Tranquil Hotel Near Cabo

5 minutes drive from downtown Cabo yet it feels like it's a world away from the hustle and bustle. That's Sirena del Mar, a Welk Resorts hotel. The hotel features roomy suites that feel more like luxury apartments than hotel rooms. Suites feature full kitchens, washer/dryers, huge jacuzzi style soaking tubs and balconies that bring the ocean waves close enough to feel the salt air mist. If you love the sound of waves crashing a rocky shore, this is the right place for you.

We've stayed and couldn't have enjoyed it more. The fact that this is a smaller hotel than most along the coast of Los Cabos makes it an intimate oasis. The staff gets to know you and that goes a long way in making for a memorable stay. This is not an all-night party spot, things get quiet here not too long after sunset. The pool area is extra special with plenty of levels to find your own private spot and the views to Land's End are about the best you can find. Another amazing feature... a swimmable beach with excellent snorkeling a short walk from your room!
